Indian
outsourcer Tata Consultancy Services says it will hire an extra
13,500 employees during the current financial year.
The new recruits
will come on top of the 46,000 Tata currently employs. Last year
the company hired 10,000 more staff.
Most of the new
staff will be taken directly from Indian colleges, although around
2,000 are expected to come from Europe and the US.
Tata rivals such as
Infosys and Wipro have also seen their headcounts rapidly rise as a
result of a booming offshore outsourcing market, as western
companies seek to cut their staff operating costs.
The headcount at
Wipro, for instance, has risen from 8,000 to around 42,000 in five
years.
