SAP has acquired manufacturing software company Lighthammer
Software Development to help its 12,000 manufacturing customers
build stronger links between their factory floors and business
processes.As a result of the
acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, Lighthammer’s Collaborative
Manufacturing Suite (CMS) will be delivered as an SAP xApps
composite application on the SAP NetWeaver platform.
“Acquiring
Lighthammer supports SAP’s strategy of enabling adaptive business
networks for our customers,” said Nils Herzberg, SAP senior
vice-president for the manufacturing industry solutions product and
technology group.
“Essential in
enabling an adaptive business network is bridging the disconnect
between the shop floor and the enterprise through what SAP refers
to as adaptive manufacturing – the ability of a manufacturer to
profitably replenish the supply chain while dynamically adapting to
unpredictable business change. The SAP/Lighthammer combination
exemplifies the adaptive business network vision,” he added.
