UK service provider Timico has joined forces with Nortel Networks to offer firms a managed IP networking service to allow them to more easily adopt voice over IP and other converged voice and data solutions. Timico says the hosting service is will also reduce costs.

A recently published white paper from the Communications Management Association says the take-up of IP-based networking has not been as great as first predicted, partly because users were unsure how to measure their return on investment.

The Timico service is based on Nortel equipment and will allow firms to access converged mobile, fixed line, internet and VoIP services all on one bill.

“Using a hosted Nortel-based solution, our aim is to take VoIP beyond the free Internet telephone call and provide a complete service without the high capital costs associated with installing your own switch,” said Mike Webb, Timico managing director.

Webb said Timico’s solution would “halve customers’ fixed line costs”.
