BT has launched a broadband phone service that allows
users to use the same phone either in the office or home or on a
mobile network.
The BT Fusion phone (also known as “Bluephone”) acts as a normal
mobile GSM phone outside the office or home, but when inside routes
calls through a BT hub onto a BT broadband line to enable cheaper
calls.
The Bluephone connects to the hub via Bluetooth short-range
wireless technology, hence its name. The hub can also be used to
wirelessly connect laptops, printers and games consoles together,
giving BT another unique selling point for the service.
BT has launched the BT Fusion 100 service which comes with 100
free minutes for £9.99 per month, and the BT Fusion 200 service
which comes with 200 free call minutes for £14.99 per month.
BT provides the Motorola handsets and hub free as part of these
packages. BT is first providing a service to 400 early adopters,
and will make the service widely available from this September.
Analyst Ovum said of the launch, “This is big news. Many have
spoken about fixed mobile convergence (FMC) over the years, but BT
is the first to offer a true FMC service.”
