Adobe, Cisco, Computer Associates, EMC, Intel,
Macromedia, Microsoft, Symantec and Veritas are to develop software
based on SAP’s Enterprise Service Architecture.
SAP said the software suppliers had licensed ESA to provide
“enterprise services-ready” products that would rely on web
services to deliver flexibility, greater speed, lowered costs and
diminished risk.
By agreeing to license ESA from SAP, the suppliers will receive
early access to SAP technical information on enterprise services,
and the tools and capabilities to work with the architecture. Data
schemas, user interfaces, application models and the security
features necessary for automating business processes on top of
enterprise services will all be provided by SAP.
Joshua Greenbaum, a principal at Enterprise Applications
Consulting, said, “This announcement represents a major shift in
market dynamics across the IT industry.
“The significance of these industry leaders working together
cannot be understated. A technology platform around common
enterprise services that can solve deployment, integration and
operational challenges is of major importance to customers and
technology companies alike.”
