The UK search engine marketing industry will be worth
almost £600m this year, and its value is rising fast.
E-consultancy, which tracks online marketing trends, said there
had been 70% growth in search engine marketing spend since last
year.
It said growth was set to continue, with the largely untapped
SME market about to come onstream and as web portals such as Google
and Yahoo ramped up the business reach for their services, such as
sponsored searches.
E-consultancy said business sectors increasingly using search
engine marketing included financial services, travel, gambling,
recruitment, automotive and property. The researcher said marketers
were now realising the benefits of building their brands using
search engines, and were not simply viewing the internet as purely
a response medium.
E-consultancy said Microsoft’s new MSN Search and Google Local
services would help fuel further growth.
