Cisco Systems has reported increased sales and net profits for the third quarter ended 30 April.

Sales were $6.2bn (£3.35bn) compared to $5.6bn (£3.02bn) in the same quarter last year, an increase of over 10%.

Net profits for the quarter were $1.4bn (£756m) compared to $1.2bn (£648m) last year. During the third quarter Cisco completed the acquisitions of wireless Lan company Airespace and Protego Networks.

"Today's results are a clear indication that our integrated technology strategy is working - customers are realising the benefits of intelligent network architecture," said John Chambers, Cisco chief executive officer.

"The long-term momentum we are seeing across our product families, geographies and market segments clearly points to Cisco's strong competitive advantage," he said.
