Business professionals are turning to Firefox, with one
study showing the open source browser now has 10% of the
market.
According to business consultancy Janco Associates, which has
been measuring browser use since 1997, visitors to 10
business-to-business websites owned by itself or its partners are
increasingly using Firefox.
So far this month Firefox users have more than doubled to
10.28%, up from the 4.23% recorded for Firefox browsers in
January.
Firefox is now the second most popular browser after Internet
Explorer, which saw its user base drop 1.78%, from 84.85% to
83.07%.
The forerunner to Firefox, the Mozilla browser, used to be the
number two browser but has now slipped to number three, standing at
3.81% of users.
Netscape remains at number four with 0.92%, after losing 2.11%
of users, and is followed, in order, by the AOL, MSN and Opera
browsers.
The Mozilla Foundation, which launched Firefox at the end of
last year, says more than 44 million Firefox browsers have been
downloaded from its site.
