The Environment Agency is ramping up its business
continuity capability to ensure that critical business activities
continue to function in the event of a disruption, such as a flood
disaster or back-office systems crash.
The agency will work with consultancy Garrison Continuity to
develop and implement a business continuity management framework
over the next six months, to help it respond to emergencies.
Rob Somers, the Environment Agency's project manager, said, “By
taking a proactive approach to planning, we will be able to
identify critical nodes, build resilience into our operational
processes and allocate resources more efficiently.”
The first phase of the project will start with a detailed
business impact and risk analysis. The second of two phases will
see the plan rolled out across all the agency’s UK regions.
Garrison's clients include the Department for Environment Food
and Rural Affairs, Transport for London and utility company Severn
Trent.
