Atos Origin has chosen a consolidated storage system for
the £4.1bn Rail Settlement Plan run on behalf of the Association of
Train Operating Companies (ATOC).
The Rail Settlement Plan (RSP) ensures that each rail operator
gets the right amount of money for each passenger travelling on the
national rail network.
The originally anticipated 14Tbyte RSP archive has instead been
replaced by a 700Gbyte searchable archive from Sand, which still
enables high-performance and complex analytics on 15 years’ worth
of mission-critical data using the Sand Analytic Server.
The more efficient 700Gbyte Sand searchable archive provides a
fully visible and searchable data repository in one location, able
to provide instant answers to queries, as well as being a
cost-effective strategy for adhering to regulatory guidelines and
data retention policies, said Atos.
The RSP is managed on behalf of the 25 train operating companies
in the UK, and is responsible for running outsourced IT service
contracts for all rail tickets, information distribution,
ticket-issuing systems, revenue allocation and revenue settlement
between train companies.
Atos Origin’s Latest Earnings Networked Nationally Over Night
(Lennon) programme is a major part of the system used to support
the RSP.
“We found that the Sand Extensible Warehouse Suite was the
natural choice for this project because, put simply, it allowed us
to effectively archive, rapidly access and extensively analyse huge
amounts of complex data,” said Mark Spear, Lennon programme
director at Atos Origin.
