BT banks on billing services savings

Head: BT banks on convergsys for billing services

BT Global Services has deployed Convergys's Infinys rating and billing service to consolidate a complex multinational billing operation, build convergence and drive significant cost efficiencies across separate billing systems in 16 countries.

The deployment is the result of a contract extension Convergys signed with BT Global Services, the division of BT providing IT and networking services to meet the needs of multi-site organisations globally.

Infinys is enabling BT Global Services to consolidate a highly complex billing operation, consisting of more than 50 billing systems across Europe, North America and Australia and myriad different tax regimes, regulations and currencies.

In one year, Convergys and BT Global Services have migrated six legacy systems to Infinys and claims to have made associated savings of around £6m. It is hoped that Infinys will deliver a similar saving for 2005 by supporting a range of products including voice, data, ATM, VoIP and streaming media.

"The scalability and convergent properties of Infinys will help BT Global Services to reach its targets of 100 million events per day by 2007," says Frank Meade, head of billing and collections for BT Global Services.
