SAP has launched a programme to offer PeopleSoft and JD
Edwards users a lower-cost alternative to Oracle's support and
maintenance services.
The Safe Passage programme aims to provide the flexibility for user
companies to plan maintenance and software migration strategies at
their own pace and at an affordable price, SAP said.
Bill McDermott, president and chief executive, SAP America, said,
"SAP Safe Passage gives companies an affordable way to protect
their investments, ease integration with SAP Netweaver and begin
the process of innovating their businesses."
SAP has also introduced an education and technology programme to
help users move their enterprise IT to a service-oriented
architecture (SOA).
The programme is based around
The programme is built on SAP's application platform, Netweaver,
which SAP said provides a foundation for moving to a services-based
architecture.
"SOA initiatives can trigger a fundamental shift in the way
organisations develop, deploy and manage their software landscape,"
said Sandra Rogers, an analyst at research firm IDC.
"Education, co-ordination and support across the enterprise is
essential as companies seek to optimise their business processes
and IT assets."
The programme focuses on enterprise services architecture
workshops, roadmaps and change management to give users a portfolio
of field-tested support services, SAP said.
It includes tools, templates, samples and workshops tailored for
individual organisations.
SAP's four steps to an SOA
- Enterprise services architecture workshops and total cost of ownership "discovery sessions"
- Building a tailored roadmap based on individual organisations' needs
- Implementing the technology and going live
- Harnessing the value of an enterprise services architecture while effectively managing change.
