Detective chief superintendent Sharon Lemon has been
appointed head of the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit, part of the
National Crime Squad of England and Wales.
The unit has responsibility for combating serious and organised
hi-tech crime. Lemon started her career with the Metropolitan
Police serving at a variety of levels, until she joined the
National Crime Squad (NCS) in 1999.
She has been NCS head of firearms, and more recently was head of
the Paedophile On-Line Investigation Team (POLIT), the national and
international single point of contact for on-line child abuse
investigations.
She also played a key role in the formation of the Virtual
Global Taskforce, an international law enforcement collaboration
comprising forces from Australia, Canada, Interpol, the UK and the
US.
Len Hynds, the outgoing unit head, has been promoted to NCS
assistant chief constable as business change and transition
director.
The NHTCU has also revamped its website
(www.nhtcu.org), encompassing
new features such as a crime reporting decision tree and top tips
for SMEs.
The website hosts three main sections: business and industry,
general public, and the media centre.
