A series of new top-level domain names are close to
being approved.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann)
has approved the .eu domain and the Icann board is expected to
approve .jobs and .travel soon.
The .eu domain could be used by any organisation operating on a
pan-European Union basis.
The European Commission has appointed Belgium-based company
Eurid to supervise .eu domain name allocation from the fourth
quarter of this year.
The .jobs and .travel domain Icann applications are being
sponsored by commercial companies who are backed by relevant
industry organisations.
