Independent employment relations organisation Acas has
launched an online tool to help SMEs understand and correctly
implement working parents’ employment rights.
With changes in maternity and paternity legislation coming into
force, many SMEs are concerned about the potential impact on their
business and want to ensure they are up to date with the law.
The new Acas e-learning package provides a free, step-by-step
guide to topics including maternity, paternity and adoption rights
and pay, parental leave, time off to help dependants and flexible
working regulations. The objective is to provide SMEs with all the
information they need to ensure they treat all staff fairly.
Rita Donaghy, Acas chair, said, “This is ideal for SMEs who have
not had to deal with a working parents issue before. It makes good
business sense to ensure that your employees keep working for you,
even if their circumstances change. This course provides brief,
straightforward advice to help prevent problems, but also to deal
with any that should arise.”
