The
European Union has launched a portal designed to make life easier
for SMEs.
The Your
Europe portal is designed to provide a one-stop information
resource for businesses wishing to trade across the EU, helping
them negotiate administrative and other requirements.
Commission vice-president Gunter Verheugen has hailed the portal as
“an important step towards EU-wide e-government”.
The portal is
designed to offer assistance over the full life cycle of an
enterprise, providing information on the rules in all member
states, for example, taking over a business, financial and other
assistance, bidding for public contracts, employment laws, social
security requirements and expatriate staff management.
In addition,
the portal also now houses existing national "fact sheets"
detailing background information on EU country activities, such as
education, banking or finding work.
Single market
commissioner Charlie McCreevy said, “This website initiative will
play an important role in helping businessmen and citizens take
advantage of the opportunities presented by the single market in
terms of jobs, starting up businesses and public procurement
opportunities.”
