HP has introduced a storage resource management suite to
unify storage in the datacentre.
The suite, HP Storage Essentials, is designed to help users
simplify IT infrastructure administration and drive
collaboration.
HP Storage Essentials integrates with HP Systems Insight
Manager, the company’s cross-server and storage management
platform.
The suite consists of a plug-in which HP says has been
factory-tested to integrate into the HP Systems Insight Manager
platform and supports industry standards, such as J2EE, SMI-S, WBEM
and WMI.
"No other vendor is providing consolidated storage and server
management that is this tightly integrated," said Steve Duplessie,
an analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group.
"This is a better way to manage infrastructure. It is a holistic
heterogeneous management that will provide greater insight into IT
issues that impact business practices."
Bob Schultz, HP senior vice-president and general manager for
the StorageWorks division, said, "HP is changing the economics of
management in the datacentre by eliminating ‘management islands’.
By unifying server and storage management, HP is enabling customers
to simplify their IT environments without sacrificing control."
