The Liberty Alliance Project has released a draft
version of the latest standard for web services
technology.
The alliance is a global consortium of large suppliers and users
developing an open and secure identity standard for web
trading.
The group has now launched ID-WSF 2.0, which supports SAML 2.0
from fellow web services standards body the Organisation for
Advancement of Structured Information Sciences (Oasis).
SAML (security assertions mark-up language) defines a framework
for communicating security and identity information between IT
systems, with SAML providing improved security in XML (extensible
mark-up language).
Gerry Gebel, an analyst at Burton Group, said, "SAML 2.0 is a
significant convergence point in the evolution of federation
standards. It’s important that vendors and other organisations
involved in the standards development process provide a clear
roadmap to support this latest version of SAML."
The alliance plans other enhancements to its standard later this
year.
Alliance members include Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Novell, NTT,
Intel and Sun Microsystems.
