Lloyds TSB has rolled out project management software to
4,000 staff to improve the management of projects and help ensure
that IT investment is in line with business goals.
The high street bank is using software from Business Engine,
called Ben, to provide development teams with a central repository
for all information related to a project.
It also provides management information on progress, cost,
project risk, resource requirement and resource allocation.
Other users of Business Engine software include investment bank
Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, pharmaceutical company Pfizer and
Siemens.
Over the past 20 years project management software has become
widely used as companies strive to improve the success rates of IT
projects.
The management of UK IT projects is improving, according to
extensive research commissioned by Computer Weekly.
The
Computer Weekly Project/Programme Management Survey, published
in 2003, surveyed 1,500 IT project managers across the UK in all
industry sectors. It found that although just 16% of IT projects
hit their targets on budget, schedule and scope many more only
narrowly missed their targets.
