Dell is slashing prices on corporate IT solutions by up
to 22%, but only for US customers.
The cuts come on the back of impressive trading figures and
lower component costs for Dell, and cover enterprise servers,
desktops and laptops.
Dell said the cuts demonstrated the advantage of its direct
business model, enabling it to pass on component cost savings
quickly. However, it stressed the savings were only for US
customers.
Savings of as much as 22% are available on the Dell PowerEdge
4600 dual-processor server. With two 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4
processors and four 73Gbyte hard drives, prices now start at $4,194
(£2,450).
Dell Precision workstation pricing has been reduced by up to
$460, and Dell has slashed $100 off select OptiPlex desktop
configurations. For mobile workers, Dell has lowered the price on
several Latitude notebook configurations up to $220 and a memory
upgrade to 512Mbytes is now available for $109.
"Our business model and direct relationship with customers allow
us to pass these savings on quickly," said Ro Parra, senior
vice-president and general manager for Dell Americas.
