French IT consulting and services specialist Capgemini
plans to recruit 500 more staff for its new office in Bangalore by
April.
The Bangalore office which was formally opened on Wednesday (20
October), will initially concentrate on applications
management.
The company already has 100 workers in place, said Capgemini.
"We expect to ramp that up to 600 by the end of the fiscal year,"
it said. The company's fiscal year ends in April.
Capgemini's Indian subsidiary, based in Mumbai, has grown from
around 300 staff in early 2003 to around 2,000 today, and serves
over 100 customers around the world, the company said. Worldwide,
Capgemini employs around 55,000.
The group sees India as central to its offshore outsourcing
operations, due to the presence of skilled English-speaking
software engineers there, it said.
Compared to others in the Indian market, though, Capgemini is
still a relatively small player. Wipro, in Bangalore, employs
around 24,000 in its IT services division, where it has added
around 3,300 staff over the last year, Wipro said.
