Gianfranco Lanci is set to take over as president of
Acer from 1 January 2005.
Acer's current president, JT Wang, will take over as chairman
and chief executive officer, replacing Acer co-founder Stan Shih,
who will retire at the end of the year.
Lanci, who currently heads up Acer's international operations,
is credited with Acer's success in the Europe, where the company
held the number four spot among all PC suppliers during the second
quarter, according to market analyst IDC. He is also credited with
boosting Acer's notebook shipments in the key US market, according
to Acer.
In 2003, Europe accounted for 60% of sales of Acer's IT
products, the company said
Because of his past successes, Lanci will come into his new role
with high expectations. Acer is counting on him to put the company
among the top three PC suppliers worldwide, Wang said. Acer held
the number five spot during the second quarter, IDC said.
