Telecom
service provider Bulldog has launched a 4Mbps broadband service for
central London priced at £30 a month.
The Bulldog 4
service is four-times more powerful than the 1Mbps service from
BT's Yahoo! broadband service, which also costs £30. A 512kbps BT
Broadband service costs £25.
Bulldog, which was
acquired by Cable & Wireless in June, is offering its service
through its own exchange equipment after taking advantage of the
unbundling of the local loop by BT to provide a rival broadband
service.
While users
downloading data will get the maximum 4Mbps, the maximum speed they
can send data at will be 400kbps, which is still faster than all
the ADSL offerings from BT.
Firms with
multiple users on shared ADSL lines and users regularly sending
large files need higher “upload” speeds so they can consider
broadband over more expensive leased lines that offer the same data
speeds in each direction.
Users signing up
for Bulldog 4 before 31 July will get an introductory price of £20
a month for the first three months.
“Having our own
infrastructure enables us to do this, unlike other providers who
are restricted by BT’s wholesale offerings. Bypassing the BT
network also means that we can also ensure a greater service
quality for our customers,” said Richard Greco, Bulldog chief
executive.
Exchanges where
Bulldog 4 is available include: Bermondsey, Bishopgate, Canonbury,
Clerkenwell, Covent Garden, Euston, Faraday, Fleet, Holborn,
Westminster, Kings Cross and Shoreditch.
