BT is “re-focusing” on expanding business globally, as
its traditional revenue stream in the UK is under
threat.
Three priority areas on which BT focused are investing in
broadband becoming a mobility service provider and becoming a
top-tier ICT company.
“BT is trying to move away from just being a telecoms company,
and focusing on becoming an ICT organisation, with the intention of
making BT a true global company again,” said BT EMEA regional
director Brian Armstrong.
“The company is building its local business development,
outsourcing and network management capabilities to complement its
wholesale and retail presence locally. BT will also focus on
increasing its sales locally,” said Armstrong, noting that 30% of
its revenue is generated outside of the UK.
According to Armstrong, the company is, at present, doing
business with 78 clients in 97% of African countries. He said the
company also has a strong belief that there are tremendous growth
opportunities in this region, which still need to be explored.
