Entertainment site Contactmusic .com expects a return on
investment in less than six months after becoming one of the first
UK users to roll out the latest version of IBM's Lotus Domino
software.
The company, which launched in 2000 using IBM xSeries servers
running Windows 2000, upgraded to Lotus Domino 6.5 earlier this
year to cope with its rapid growth, which has seen page impressions
jump by two million a month to five million. It has also upgraded
its servers to support the growth and new software.
"We were having some problems running the site using version 5
of Domino," said Anthony Johnson, technical director at
Contactmusic. "As we got busier we needed to get the upgrade to
improve the stability, the replication speeds and the spam
filtering on the site."
The investment needed to get the new software licences and
upgrade the hardware to run version 6.5 will be paid back easily
within six months, according to Johnson.
