Avaya has introduced products designed to help
businesses improve productivity by boosting the effectiveness of
real-time collaboration.
The company introduced software and phones based on the Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP), a standard used for connections between
devices in IP networks such as voice-over-IP phones.
Avaya said its new tools integrate internet applications, such
as instant messaging, with voice and telephone features, such as
conferencing, voicemail and "click-to-dial" capabilities, enabling
collaboration among individuals and teams of people in various
locations.
"The end result is the reduction of time it takes to reach
colleagues, obtain information and make decisions, increasing
overall productivity and operational efficiency throughout an
organisation," the company said.
Avaya said its SIP products allow companies to use the full
benefits of "presence" to accelerate and simplify communication
across multiple points of contact, including desktop telephones,
mobile devices, PCs and instant messaging applications.
The foundation for these capabilities is the Avaya Converged
Communications Server, a suite of open standards-based software
applications that enables an IT staff to deploy SIP and
presence-enabled applications securely and cost-effectively.
Through the server, network administrators can provide employees
with a single, secure SIP address that consolidates various modes
of communications.
The company also announced SIP enhancements to its Communication
Manager, as well as the addition of two new IP telephones -- the
Avaya IP Softphone R5 with Instant Messaging and the Avaya 4602 SIP
Desktop Phone.
