The Primergy RXI600 will support between one and four processors
based on Intel's 64-bit technology and will have a maximum clock
speed of 1.5GHz, said Jon Rodriguez, a senior product manager with
Fujitsu Computer Systems.
"It's aimed primarily at applications like large databases,
enterprise applications, computer-aided engineering, anything that
requires a large memory," he said.
Fujitsu's European subsidiary, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, also
unveiled a workstation based on a 64-bit x86 processor developed by
Advanced Micro Devices.
The Celsius V810, which will not be sold in the US, will contain
as many as two AMD Opteron processors. It will have a maximum clock
speed of 2.2GHz.
With the high-end V810, Fujitsu Siemens becomes the first major
computer maker to sell an Opteron-based workstation.
Fujitsu is also working on a mainframe-class Itanium-based
system which is expected to ship some time in 2005.
The V810 will support as much as 16Gbytes of Ram and will have a
maximum storage capacity of 147Gbytes. The RXI600 server comes with
as much as 32Gbytes of memory and will have a maximum storage
capacity of 438Gbytes.
Both systems will ship with either Windows or Linux.
