Halton Borough Council, Liverpool City Council,
Leicester City Council and the Surrey Partners e-Recruitment
pathfinder project have made the shortlist for this year’s Local
Government IT Excellence awards.
Organised by the Society of IT Management, the Society of Local
Authority Chief Executives and suppliers’ organisation Intellect,
the awards seek to highlight the use of best practice in local
government IT.
Charles Ward, marketing and services director at Intellect, the
IT suppliers' organisation, said, "The shortlisted entries all
demonstrated the right balance of innovation, utilisation of
resources, achievable objectives and practical benefits in terms of
both process improvement and service to the citizen."
The judging panel met in September to judge this year’s entries
and selected four for the shortlist. The winner will be announced
at Socitm’s annual conference in Birmingham on 6 October.
Halton Borough Council,
Halton Benefit Express
The project aims to enable customers
to claim benefits easily and quickly. Staff are equipped with
digital cameras to record proofs and laptop computers connected
directly to the benefits system deliver the service directly into
the client’s home, therefore reducing processing times and delays
while improving service performance and customer satisfaction.
Leicester City Council,
Leicester Disability Information and Communication
Network
The Leicester Disability Information
and Communication Network, launched in July 2003, is aimed at
people with disabilities and their carers. The project has created
a web-portal and new computer suites, specially adapted for the
needs for users with disabilities, in social care and voluntary
sector centres in Leicester.
Liverpool City Council,
Integrated Children's Service / Children's Community
Index
Liverpool City Council has launched
the Integrated Children’s Service to handle enquiries from
children, families and professionals. The service also encompasses
a Children’s Community Index computer system, which will contain a
record of all children and young people living in the City of
Liverpool.
