The disaster recovery arrangements of many UK companies are
not robust enough, although further investment is planned,
according to recent research.
A survey published by market analyst Meta Research found that only
60% of Global 2000 companies had a "credible disaster recovery plan
that is up-to-date, tested and executable".
The survey said the number is an increase from 50% in 2002 and that
"a series of failed recoveries and unmanaged incidents resulting
from 11 September and increasing regulatory pressure have focused
senior management interest on disaster recovery".
Meta said it expects 80% of Global 2000 IT organisations to
re-evaluate their plans.
Gartner recommends that the requirements for disaster recovery
should be defined early and might include daily data and system
back-ups or more mirroring.
