Oracle will launch a US version of its E-Business Suite
Special Edition product for midsized companies before the end of
the year.
First introduced in Asia and Europe last year, the E-Business
Suite Special Edition is a package of enterprise applications
delivered ready to run on a hardware server. The product includes
the accounting, sales order management, inventory management and
purchasing modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite.
"It will be similar, but it is not going to be exactly the same.
Different markets require different offerings," Oracle spokesman
Sean Mills said.
In Europe, the product is sold by Oracle partners. The idea is
to offer a product that costs less than €100,000 (£70,139),
requires little customisation and can be running in days. The
software is designed for 10 to 25 users. If more than 25 user
accounts are needed, a company has to upgrade to the full
E-Business Suite.
Oracle defines the US midmarket as companies with between 20 and
999 employees and between $20m (£12.4m) and $1bn (£621m) in annual
revenue, Mills said.
The E-Business Suite Special Edition offering puts Oracle in
competition for midmarket companies with rivals SAP and Microsoft's
Business Solutions unit.
