Disaster recovery and back-up were the major issues for users attending the Storage Networking World-Eurostorage conference in Cannes last week, according to Paul Talbut, a top official at the Storage Networking Industry Association.

Talbut said companies are increasingly aware of the two issues as a result of the changing global political situation. "You have only got to look at the outside world," he said.

"Disaster recovery and back-up are important - customers will go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that their most strategic assets - their data - is protected."

Disaster recovery also featured prominently in the most recent European storage audit from the SNIA, an organisation which aims to promote supplier-neutral storage networking. More than half of the 100 firms surveyed said the issue was a primary concern.

Talbut said interoperability and storage networking management were also key themes at the conference, where an interoperability lab was available for SNIA members.

He said, "The iLab was a supplier-neutral area where SNIA-Europe members could come and show how business continuity could be achieved using a variety of products."
