Hewlett-Packard has added a notebook to its product line
and specific services for the small and medium-sized
business market.
The Compaq Business Notebook nx9010 is a desktop-replacement
model that comes with an integrated chip from Broadcom based on the
draft 802.11g wireless standard.
That standard, slated for final approval by the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers in the US later this year, can
send data at rates up to 54Mbps and is compatible with products
based on the more widely used 802.11b standard.
The notebook comes in three configurations. The base model
features a 2.0GHz desktop Celeron processor from Intel, 256Mbytes
of DDR (double data rate) SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM), a
30Gbyte hard drive, a 15-inch display, and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive
for $1,099.
HP expected more customers would opt for the preconfigured model
with 802.11g, which comes with a 2.66GHz Pentium 4 processor,
512Mbytes of DDR SDRAM, a 60Gbyte hard drive, a 15-inch display,
and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive for $1,549.
The nx9010 is available immediately through HP's SMB resellers
and can be ordered online. Customers can add additional memory and
peripherals through the resellers and HP's website.
HP also shored up its reseller partners with new services. it
will create the partnerOne SMB network for resellers that work
closely with smaller businesses.
Those resellers will provide targeted services for products such
as the new nx9010 notebook, as well as other products across HP's
lineup for SMB customers.
The services will be bundled into what HP has called a Care
Pack, which allows customers to pick support levels and product
coverage for their IT infrastructure based on their needs.
