Oracle yesterday unveiled its E-Business Suite Special Edition, a
package of enterprise applications targeting mid-sized European
companies and delivered ready to run on a hardware server.
The offering, which Oracle partners will sell in 13 European
countries, puts the company in direct competition in the European
midmarket with rivals SAP, Sage and Microsoft Business Solutions
unit.
E-Business Suite Special Edition comprises the financial
accounting, sales order management, inventory management and
purchasing modules of the E-Business Suite for large enterprises,
which allows companies to manage business processes, such as
financials, payroll and customer relationship management..
Between 10 and 25 people in a company with between 100 and 500
employees are allowed to use the software. If more user accounts
are needed, the company has to upgrade to the more expensive
E-Business Suite. Pricing is determined by the Oracle partner
delivering the product and depends on added software and services.
Oracle executives had previously talked about the company's plans
to launch region-specific midmarket products around the world, with
China being one of the first markets it will target.
The midmarket, once the domain of smaller software companies, has
become the promised land for vendors that traditionally target only
large companies.
Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition is immediately available in
local language in the UK, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic,
Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland,
Sweden and Switzerland.
