Sabre Holdings has announced it has completed the initial migration
of its airfare pricing application to Hewlett-Packard's NonStop
server platform.
The migration is part of Sabre's new travel technology platform,
the Air Travel Shopping Engine (ATSE), said Michael Berman, a
spokesman for the company which provides technology, distribution
and marketing services for the travel industry.
Sabre owns travel Web site Travelocity.com and GetThere, a provider
of Web-based travel reservation systems for corporations and travel
suppliers.
Berman said the ATSE is a four-year programme designed to migrate
airfare pricing, schedules and availability from a proprietary
mainframe system to the always-on HP NonStop server and database
environment. Sabre announced its plan to move its reservation
system from mainframes to HP servers about a year ago.
Sabre's airfare pricing application continuously updates 20 million
fare and rule records and 1.5 million schedules, providing users
with the most up-to-date data in the industry, according to Berman.
He said the next step will be to roll out the system to travel
agents and other online sites.
Berman said that because the new system allows Sabre to
significantly speed up development time, it plans to rapidly
develop new and unique shopping services within the next six to 12
months. In addition, he said, Sabre plans to migrate its other
applications, including its customer relationship management
program to the new platform.
