The United Nations has launched a Web portal - implementing
technology from SAP - designed to help diverse members create and
share information around the world.
The portal is for the UN's Global Compact initiative, which links
governments, businesses, labour groups and UN agencies and aims to
foster action and partnerships in support of human rights, labour
and government.
The Global Compact portal is based on mySAP Enterprise Portal
technology, which is designed to manage all types of information,
including applications, databases, stored documents and Internet
information.
To aid Global Compact members in submitting annual examples of good
practices, the portal provides a single, password-protected
interface to post their examples and invite comment from other
participants and from the general public.
Georg Kell, executive head of the UN Global Compact initiative,
hoped the move would help "rejuvenate" the UN and make it more
effective.
