Fujitsu Services has imposed a seven-month pay freeze on its UK
staff in the wake of thousands of job losses.
The 9,000 staff at Fujitsu Services were originally due to receive
a pay review in June. This was then deferred to October. The pay
review has now been put back to next April.
A spokesman for Fujitsu Services - formerly known as ICL - said the
economic downturn was the reason for deferring the pay review even
further.
The pay freeze, announced internally earlier this week, will
further dent morale among Fujitsu Services' beleaguered staff.
Nearly 2,000 UK jobs were cut earlier this year through a mixture
of compulsory and voluntary redundancies.
In a separate announcement last year, Fujitsu Services said it
planned to cut 16,000 jobs worldwide.
Peter Skyte, national secretary of IT professionals association
Amicus, said the pay review has been handled badly.
"The fact that this [pay freeze] has happened on top of job losses
earlier this year that were supposed to put [Fujitsu Services] onto
a sound footing has eroded confidence in the management of the
company. You cannot expect to recruit and retrain skilled IT
professionals with hints but no firm promise of jam tomorrow."
