Inktomi has joined forces with Microsoft to produce a new, fast
access content management solution.
The integrated offering, dubbed Connect It for Microsoft Content
Management Server, links Inktomi's Enterprise Search software and
Microsoft's Content Management Server via a Java-based
connector.
Connect It for Microsoft Content Management Server consists of a
bridge that links the Inktomi Java API to Microsoft Content
Management System. Within the bridge is a publication monitor that
listens to Microsoft CMS and responds when new information is
published, Ron Baumert, senior manager of business development at
Inktomi, said.
Specifically, the connector between the products allows published
content to update the Inktomi search index on the fly, providing
access to new data instantly instead of hours or days later, he
said. The connector is typically deployed by professional services
and Inktomi Consulting Services will carry out integration work as
required by companies.
When a content management system "produces and publishes
information to a Web server the information is not always updated
in a timely fashion," Baumert said. "One of the key benefits of
this type of integration is that it allows customers to have access
to that content once it is published," he added.
Inktomi's enterprise strategy is to feed its search technology into
a variety of document repositories, databases, content management
systems, and portals. The company also has integration
relationships with Documentum, Open Text, Interwoven, Stellent, and
Vignette.
