Hewlett-Packard, as a result of its acquisition of Compaq, plans to
lay off 165 people in Belgium.
The cuts are part of HP's plan to reduce its headcount by about
15,000 worldwide to eliminate redundancies created as a result of
the takeover and to adapt to present market conditions. About
10,000 of the jobs will go by November. Customers should not be
affected, HP said.
About 5,900 people in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region
will be asked to leave.
Last week, HP announced plans to let go 1,100 employees in Germany
and 325 in the Netherlands.
So far, the biggest cut has been in France, where 1,400 of the
6,200 staff will be laid off.
The second biggest cut is slated for the UK, where HP will cut
1,400 jobs from 7,600. In Ireland, HP announced it will make 80 of
its 4,000-employee workforce redundant.
