German enterprise software provider SAP will resell and distribute
Oracle's Oracle9i Database with Real Application Clusters (Oracle9i
RAC) under the terms of a three-year deal, the companies announced
today at the Oracle World trade show in Copenhagen.
The database software company and SAP, will both provide support to
joint customers.
The SAP software using Oracle9i RAC will be available within six
months for SAP customers using Hewlett-Packard's HP AlphaServer
systems running Tru64 Unix, the companies said. They have already
launched some pilot projects with customers who cannot yet be
named.
More than two-thirds of SAP's customers run their applications over
Oracle database software, the companies claimed.
In benchmark tests, SAP R/3 Release 4.6C applications and Oracle9i
RAC were run alongside a sales and distribution applications
workload over a four-node clustered HP AlphaServer ES45 system
using TruCluster Server software with four processors per system,
the companies said.
The additional nodes used in Oracle's next-generation cluster
technology allowed for server consolidation while increasing
performance. As a result, SAP believes its customers will achieve
lower costs, higher scalability and improved reliability using the
SAP/Oracle9i RAC package, the companies said.
