IBM is targeting smaller companies and organisations with its
latest range of Thinkpad notebooks and NetVista desktops.
Several machines were released within the Thinkpad R32 line of
notebooks yesterday, designed for small to medium-sized businesses
and customers in the education market.
The R32 models are available in several different configurations
but are all powered by Intel's Pentium 4 Processor-M.
Users can choose to equip their notebook computers with 802.11b
wireless networking technology, Firewire and Universal Serial Bus
(USB) ports for connecting peripheral devices, and image management
software. Prices for the R32 line start at $1,649 (£1,133).
IBM also introduced new computers within its ThinkPad A31 and A31p
lines, which run on Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M chips, and Intel
Celeron-powered machines in its ThinkPad R31 line. Prices for the
A31 and A31p lines start at $1,599 and $3,599, respectively.
The desktop consumer can choose between new NetVista models, the
A30 and A30p. Intel's Pentium 4 Processor provides the computing
power for these machines, which also come with integrated Intel
Extreme Graphics, a feature of Intel's new 845G and 845GL chipsets.
Six USB 2.0 ports provide an interface for digital cameras, MP3
players, and a new portable hard drive from IBM. The NetVista A30
starts at $799 while the A30p's base price is $889.
The NetVista M42 also made its debut yesterday, featuring an Intel
Pentium 4 Processor and Gigabit Ethernet capability, and a starting
price of $1,279.
