IBM has confirmed it will cut jobs at its New York site, the
company said yesterday.
About 5% of the workforce will be affected by the action, according
to Todd Martin, an IBM spokesman.
Martin said half will be offered equivalent jobs within IBM, while
the other half will lose their jobs, he added.
The most significant cutback will be in the server division
software group, with minor cuts in accounting and global finance,
he said.
Changes will take place within 60 days, he said.
Martin indicated the changes are not part of a broader cutback as
earlier reported.
"This is a business unit looking at its business and determining
what it needs to do to achieve efficiencies through the elimination
of redundancies and consolidation of work," Martin said.
