More than 100 office workers agreed to tell confidential passwords to complete strangers on London's Victoria Station last week.

The workers disclosed their passwords to canvassers conducting a computer security survey. Fortunately, the canvassers were not working for the Mafia, but investigating the human side of IT security.

Only one-third of those questioned refused to reveal passwords, and 64% had already told colleagues. "I am the boss and everyone knows my password," one company director told the interviewers, to the dismay of his IT director, who said, "I never divulge my password. It would give admin rights to the whole system."

The survey was conducted by Infosecurity Europe show, and The Human Firewall, an IT security pressure group.
