For every £1 that UK companies spend on storage, 73p is wasted as a
result of poor planning and management, according to research from
Source Consulting.
Jason Rabbets, commercial director at Source Consulting, explained,
"The vast majority of companies are not undertaking proper capacity
planning, project management and storage resource
management."
The research - which looked at 20 blue-chip companies - suggests
that the bulk of UK businesses are making inadequate use of their
storage resources.
"We went to one site where an additional one-terabyte subsystem was
sitting unused in a room," said Rabbets.
He estimated that the average blue-chip company is spending 22
times the cost of one gigabyte of storage on management overheads,
back-up and training.
