Phillip Bungey, the former e-commerce director at Barclays
Stockbrokers, has been appointed chief technology officer at
Lloyds.com, the insurance portal recently launched by brokered
insurance market Lloyd's of London
Bungey took up his new post last week. He takes over the technical
operations of the site from the interim director Chris Rawson. The
new position will see Bungey taking a central role in defining the
portal's long-term strategy while managing the site's technical
infrastructure.
The infrastructure is based on a combination of modified Sun E420R
and E200R servers, running Solaris 8, ATG Dynamo 5.1, Autonomy,
IPlanet Webserver 4.1 and Oracle 8i. Bungey's move from Barclays
Stockbrokers came as a surprise to observers, but he said he saw
the insurance sector as a challenge. "The main aim of the site is
to make Lloyds.com the top global risk management exchange in the
world.
"This is a market that has not been particularly advanced in its
use of technology, so there is an opportunity for a whole industry
to use technology in ways beyond what it does today," Bungey said.
