ISVs win switch to annual product subscription model

Thursday 14 June 2001 09:58
Progress Software has changed its approach to providing products to ISVs by adopting a yearly subscription system.

The move came after ISVs complained that the existing licensing of individual products was too costly and complicated.

Emea development manager Eric Janse said the shift formed part of the Progress Software Developers Network (PSDN) and "changes the way we give products to our customers".

He revealed Progress would offer its ISVs yearly subscriptions, which would give them more opportunity to develop their networks.

"As part of the fee, we would provide them with new products, training and access to experienced consultants," added Janse.

Progress decided to make the change following numerous complaints from ISVs that the previous system was too restrictive.

"In a way, it penalised them for doing well and that is not what we wanted," said Janse.

Adding to the changing face of Progress, it also added a product line called Progress Fathom, an application management system which centrally monitors and manages Progress-based applications and components.

"Future enhancements will focus on specific aspects of overall system management and include high availability, expert best practices and security," said vice president of Progress products, Peter Sliwkowski.
