Security managers set to benefit from expert service

Tuesday 05 June 2001 11:45
UK security managers will benefit from a new free service that will give them the opportunity to question some of the top security experts in the business

Kevin Townsend, editor of The Encyclopedia of Computer Security (TECS), which launched the service, said, "We don't mind how difficult the question is, although we can't guarantee that we'll be able answer every one. We've got some top people who have agreed to help and between them, there is very little they don't know about enterprise security."

TECS has enlisted the help of over 100 security specialists including experts from Entegrity, Reflex, Sophos and Checkpoint as well as independent advisers and academics.

Townsend added, "We will be filtering questions but basically any question that can't be answered by doing a basic Internet search, will be passed on to the experts."

The service is part of a push by TECS to create a platform where users feel able to talk about problems and find solutions. "We hope to get some really challenging questions, which we plan to turn into a monthly interactive guide where we commission experts to cover, in depth, the most frequently asked questions," said Townsend.

He has promised the expert panel will not be allowed simply to plug their own software or services. "This is a service aimed at users and not a platform for marketing."

The service is available from the TECS website at http://www.itsecurity.com.
