An annual sailing event held in Southampton last month raised some
£5,000 for IT Relief and children's charity, KIDS.
The BT Syncordia Solutions Industry Sailing Challenge saw teams
from IT companies take to the water in an attempt to raise funds
for disabled and special needs children on behalf of IT Relief, the
industry's charity initiative.
Setting sail were crews from Siemens Communications, 3Com
Europe, Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Lucent Technologies, Elan
Computing, Enterasys (Cabletron), Data Integration and Equip
Technology, while race sponsor, BT Syncordia Solutions, took home
the winning honours.
Commenting on the challenge, Jason Ludlow of Events UK, who
organised the race, said, "The teams, nearly all of whom were
novices, competed really well in some of the most challenging and
exhilarating sailing conditions over the bank holiday. I don't
think they realised how well they had done and what they had all
achieved, but they certainly had a good time supporting IT relief
on the high seas."
Additional fundraising events are planned for the year. Further
details are available at www.itrelief.org, or from the IT Relief
hotline on 0704 4000 989.
