Torbay Care Trust deploys £3.8m patient record system

Torbay Care Trust has signed a £3.8m contract for a Single Community Care Record (SCCR) system for health and social care to provide remote access for staff.

Torbay Care Trust has signed a £3.8m contract for a Single Community Care Record (SCCR) system for health and social care to provide remote access for staff.

The trust, which provides health and social care services in Torbay and southern Devon, signed the five-year contract with healthcare IT integrator Simpl and its partner Optevia to provide staff with office-based and remote offline access to secure records of patient and client care details.

Built using Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the SCCR system will eventually replace the Trust’s existing care record system.

Mandy Seymour, chief operating officer for the trust, said the system will save its 1,000 care workers and medical staff 20% in time. The trust had used the previous system for four to five years and it was no longer fit for purpose, she said.

“This has enormous benefits in terms of maximising staff time with patients and clients, providing them access to the most up-to-date information about a person’s care and needs, and removing unnecessary travelling,” she said.

The contract began in October 2011 and, as prime contractor, Simpl is responsible for programme, project and change management, and will provide desk support.
