Redmond has launched the Open Licensing Programme for Government. Available from 1 October, small council bodies, GP practices, housing associations and other organisations could receive bigger discounts on their software.

The initiative has been welcomed by resellers, who estimate they will be able to use the programme go after almost 50,000 UK small-scale, public-sector bodies with discounted software rates.
