The worldwide external controller-based (ECB) disk storage market increased 3.4% in the third quarter to £1.95bn, said analyst Gartner, with EMEA showing even greater growth.

The overall year-on-year increase saw EMC maintain its number one spot in the market with a 25.8% share, with IBM in second place with 14.6%.
Hewlett-Packard came in third with 12.6%, and Hitachi/HDS and Dell made up fourth and fifth place respectively.
In the EMEA region, the ECB market rose 5.3% to £600m in the third quarter, said Gartner.
"To date, this quarter has exhibited the best performance in 2007," said Gartner analyst Robin Burke.
